Step 3 of 10: Chips Setup

Total number of physical poker chips to start with: 21 X 20 = 420 poker chips At some point during the tournament the “25” chips will be useless since the blinds will be in even “100’s”. At that point you can “color up” the “25” chips. So, you will need more “100” and possibly more “500” chips. SNGs for Quick Play Poker Action. Sit & Go’s, or SNGs, are an exciting form of tournament poker. These poker contests are made up of a set number of players and the action only gets underway once that number has been reached. Sit & Go’s usually feature 2 – 360 players, but the most commonly played SNGs are the Single Table Tournaments (STTs).
I typically use 5 total chip colors with the following values:
- White - $25
- Red - $50
- Blue - $100
- Black - $500
- Green - $1,000
I use the Poker Tournament Manager Deluxe chip calculator to determine how many chips of each color I need based on the number of players and the buyin chip value. One thing to consider is that you don't want the players to have to few chips because people will tend to go 'all-in' faster...so it is better to setup your chip distribution so that each player has 20 or more total chips when possible.
I always count out the chips prior to the tournament so that when players arrive and I check them in their initial buyin is ready to go. This greatly speeds up getting your tournament started.

The Warm Up kicks off tonight with the first of three starting flights. With a $1,050 buy-in and a $500,000 guarantee there is sure to be a packed field. And that could include you, if you win your way in through some of the partypoker satellites.
Sub-Feeders start at just $3.30, with seats guaranteed to further feeders before you get to direct satellites. These direct satellites guarantee up to 20 seats directly to the $1,050 buy-in Warm Up, but be careful because each Day 1 has a different satellite.
